Administrative History

University Computing Services was created in 1963 as a campus-wide installation for the University computers. Originally called the Computer Research Center, it was renamed Information System Services in 1981, then designated as University Computing Services in 1990. All computer science classes were taught by the Center from 1967 until 1972 when the Computer Science Department was created. Garly Carlson was the director from 1963 until 1980. Willard Gardner was director from 1980 until 1990. Kelly McDonald was appointed director in 1990.
