General

Henry Jefferson Dofflemyer Hort was born August 31, 1839, in Luray, Page, Virginia. He was married to Bethana Bailey on October 5, 1867. His original surname was Dofflemyer but it was changed to Hurt (a variation of his mother's maiden name) to escape an apprenticship and law officials so that he and his family could join the saints. He and his family were part of the movement from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Utah. He died March 31, 1892.
