Scope and Contents
Collection primarily consists of manuscripts (published and unpublished) written by Helen Hinckley Jones and her students/associates. These manuscripts include fictional and historical novels, short stories, articles, biographical and autobiographical accounts, academic work, and official name work for several state libraries.
Three other types of materials relating to these manuscripts are included; correspondence, promotional, and research/academic.
Most of the correspondence consists of letters to/from publishing houses and literary agents. Among the agents is Mr. Larry Sternig, who appeared to be Mrs. Jones' foremost representative. The remainder of the letters are from Mrs. Jones' family and personal friends, with some fanmail and holiday greetings.
The promotional materials deal with Mrs. Jones' literary career. They consist of newspapers articles, flyers for literary events/gatherings, awards for literary or academic acclaim, and reviews of Mrs. Jones' published works.
The research and academic materials is mostly background work for Mrs. Jones' historical novels, but there is also a great amount of teaching materials acquired over years of teaching in Pasadena.
Arguably the most unique items in this collection are those dealing with the three books Mrs. Jones co-created with Najmeh Najafi. These include photographs, newspaper clippings dealing with Iran, and resports on the social conditions. These accumulate in Ms. Najafi's social work and her Persian Project.

Biographical note
Helen Hinckley Jones (1903-1991) was an academic and an author in Utah and California.
Mrs. Helen Hinckley Jones was born on April 12, 1903 in Provo, Utah, She sold her first published poem at the age of 7.
She co-authored three books with Najmeh Najafi, who was responsible for the Persian Project and other humanitarian aid in Iran.
Mrs. Jones was the writer of numerous articles, stories and other manuscripts. In addition she helped to solicit the work of many other authors. She taught drama and history from 1924 to 1938 in Ogden. And from 1948 to 1974 she taught creative writing at the Pasadena city college of California.
She earned a bachelor's and a master's degree from Brigham Young University between 1924-1928, and She did postgraduate work with Cambridge, the University of California, Berkley, the University of Colorado, Utah State University, and Stanford. She was awarded the BYU Distinguished Service Alumni Award, the Pasadena city College Distinguished Service Certificate, and many other academic and literate awards.
Aside from her personal academic and authorial work, Mrs. Jones was known for her work with young authors. She is credited as the inspiration for many of her published students, and was affectionately refered to as "Momma" by some of them.
She was married to Ivan C. Hinckley, and had two daughters.
She died November 25, 1991 in Pasadena California.
