Biographical History

(Edward) Dennis Rowley (1938-1996) was the Curator of Archives and Manuscripts at the Brigham Young University Harold B. Lee Library.

(Edward) Dennis Rowley was born 18 August 1938 in Hudson, Colorado to Edward Arthur and Mary Staples Rowley. On 18 April 1961 he married Consuelo Trujillo in Salt Lake City and they had 3 children. In 1965 Rowley received a B.A. in History from the University of Colorado, then in 1970 he earned an M.A. in Latin American History from Case Western Reserve University, then in 1984 he earned a Ph.D. in the History of American Literature from Brigham Young University. He served in the Colorado National Guard and the United States Army. Rowley served as Archives Assistant at Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals of Cleveland Archivist, Curator of Maps and Manuscripts for the Wisconsin State Historical Society, and New Mexico State University Archivist and Executive Director of Rio Grande Historical Collections. In 1973 he became the Curator of Archives and Manuscripts at the Brigham Young University Harold B. Lee Library. He held this position until 1991, yet remained on the faculty until he passed away on 12 August 1996.
